The mission of Duke Dance Marathon is to inspire, educate, and support Duke Children's Hospital and Health Center, our local Children's Miracle Network Hospital. Through our yearlong efforts to conquer pediatric illness, we increase awareness and raise money "For the Kids" at Duke Children's.
Who We Are
Duke Dance Marathon is students, student organizations, faculty, and community members coming together in a united effort, all to fight for a common cause. Being Duke's largest student-run philanthropy, student teams raise money year-round through several fundraising events and personal appeals. Our efforts culminate in an 8-hour event to celebrate the fight against pediatric illness, where 100% of our funds go toward essential research, equipment and education, and increasing quality of life for the patients.
Why We Stand
The main purpose of Duke Dance Marathon is to raise money and awareness for Duke Children's...but why do we stand for 8 hours? Standing for so many hours symbolizes both the physical and emotional challenges the patients at Duke Children's Hospital experience every day. We stand for the kids who can't.
Duke Dance Marathon is an event unlike any other. It takes students on an amazing journey over the course of our event. Every hour, students will participate in the morale dance that they learn at the beginning of the event in order to maintain spirit and commitment to the cause. To inspire students to remain standing, several miracle families from Duke Children's will share their stories throughout the event. Dancers have the opportunity to stand, dance, sing, eat, and play together all to show their support "For the Kids".
